Alternative tourism is a responsible form of tourism, which is, in this case, related directly to fair trade. The producers and the other locals participate in providing services like guides, food and transport and the gains generated by the hostel in Montero are managed by the „directiva zonal“ the Montero producers’ executive board/ committee?.

This model of tourism supports social projects like the women’s weaving associations, as well as ecological projects such as reforestation.  A respectful way of traveling, the discovery of the local production and the life of the producers in the Sierra of Piura  are at the core of this project.

Goals of the program: The tourist activities aim at diversifying the activities in this rural area by encouraging an economic development which gives the people in the rural zone of Montero the possibility to get a supplementary source of (much needed?) income and support.
